Bal Sadan Association (Regd) since 1993 is a home for orphan and destitute children coming from all sorts of adverse situations of abandonment, abuse, neglect and trauma.
The society has endeavoured to give the children a clean, spacious healthy home environment with good nutritious food and quality education for children and their all round development and growth.
Children are admitted through the Child Welfare Committee Panchkula.
1. The number of children is 42.
2. Vocational training in sewing & stitching, computer center and training in skin and beauty is running regularly since 2004.
3. Classical dance, vocal music classes, painting / drawing classes are arranged on Sundays/holidays & summer vacation, lectures on moral values & general knowledge by knowledgeable persons are also arranged.
4. Tuition classes have been set up providing chairs / desks and black boards. Paid teachers take tuitions for children of Bal Sadan after school hours.
Daily schedule:
42 children have been accommodated in ten dormitories. Children get up at 6:30 a.m. They are ready for school by 7.15 a.m. Students take breakfast and leave for school / college by 7:30 A.M. They come back between 1 P.M to 2:45 P.M and take lunch and rest for 15 minutes to ½ hour. Then they do their home work and also attend tuition classes upto 6 P.M. Some children attend computer classes and some play (Indoor and Outdoor games). They assemble for prayer at 7:30 P.M for 45 minutes and then they take dinner at 8:15 P.M. During this time they watch TV and interact with each other. At 9:00 P.M they start studying again and they go to bed by 10:15 P.M.
Most of the time five governing members attend the office to sort out problems of the children. They meet the donors and inform them about the requirement of the children and seek their suggestions to improve the working of the Sadan. The office bearers also watch the progress of the children and attend parent-teacher meetings held by school authorities. They also take steps to remove the weaknesses as pointed out by the teachers in the meetings. Tutors are also involved in this process. Meeting with children and staff is held once a month to know their problems and solve them. The help of counsellors is also taken in this regard. Governing body meeting is held once a month to inform the governing body about the
progress made by the children & financial position of Bal Sadan. Their suggestions and co-operation is sought for smooth running of Bal Sadan and requirements of children are listed on the notice board so that compassionate donors can arrange necessary items.
The covered area of building of Bal Sadan is 33% of two canal plot. Four to five children have been accommodated in each dormitory. There is a full fledged kitchen and big dining hall. The children study after school hours in tuition room/hall. Every child has been provided with separate bed and cupboard. Senior children have been provided with study chairs and tables.
The children take breakfast at 7:30AM and take lunch boxes while going to school. The menu of breakfast, lunch and dinner is provided.
Activities in Bal Sadan in 2016-2017
The festivals of Diwali, Lohri & Holi were celebrated with great
enthusiasm. However the Christmas celebrations that were organized by the wife of the Deputy High Commissioner,Mrs. Lizeth Herara. Mr. David Lelliot and his wife participated on 17 December, 2017 in a function which was enjoyed the most by our children of Bal Sadan.
The D.C. of Panchkula, Mrs. Garima Mittal visited Bal Sadan on 10-10-2016. The children presented a cultural show which was really appreciated by her. She spent almost three hours with the children.
During the entire year five weddings were conducted successfully, namely of Bindu, Kiran, Vandana, Pooja and Vaishali. All these girls have gone into good homes and are very happy.
The CJM cum secretary DLSA, Panchkula, Mrs. Nidhi Bansal visited Bal Sadan on 10.2.17 and was extremely satisfied with the functioning of Bal Sadan. She also organized a legal camp for the girls so that they are aware of their legal rights.
A Dental Camp was held on 10.2.2017 by the students of Devi Dayal College, Barwala.
On Valentine Day the children were invited to the Hyatt Hotel, Chandigarh. They were taken on a round of the hotel and in the end games were conducted that were enjoyed by the children. Each child was given a gift in the form of clothes.
Children are given an opportunity to voice their needs in a Children’s Committee, so that any problems they face can be aired.
We at Bal Sadan endeavour to make children a part of the Governing functions and hence ensure their participation and get their important inputs too.
Outings
We have taken children for movies like Dilwale, Singh is Bling, Houseful 3 and Dangal, cultural dance shows, an outing to Kasauli, Kurukshetra and Virasat –e- Khalsa, Anandpur Sahib.
We are planning to take children to Kurukshetra again.
